What is Laser Dentistry?

Traditional tools have been used by most dental offices for years to treat patients’ teeth. Patients often had to endure uncomfortable tools and noisy drills. At Blue Coral Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we have a much better solution for our patients. Laser Dentistry offer patients more options for treatment. Lasers also allow our dentist to use less medication (no need to numb), be more precise during procedures (light on targets areas), reduce the time it takes to complete procedures (no waiting period for numbing), and decrease the risk of intraoral bleeding and infection (laser cauterizes, eliminates bacteria).

How do Dental Lasers Work?

Dental lasers interact with specific molecules within the teeth and gums to create a dental light. The Biolase Waterlase works with water molecules in your mouth. The laser works only on the targeted tissue. This greatly reduces the chance of damaging other structures.

The laser does not generate heat like traditional dental tools. This makes most procedures more comfortable.

What Procedures are Performed with a Dental Laser?

A Waterlase laser can be performed in nearly all pediatric dental procedures.

Numbing Teeth Before Fillings

The Waterlase laser, for example, can be used to numb teeth before filling them. This eliminates the need to have a shot. You can also use the laser to remove the cavity and prepare the tooth for fillings. Talk to your Blue Coral dentist to see if Laser Dentistry is the right option for your child.

Is a Laser Safe?

The short answer is, Yes! At Blue Coral Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, laser dentistry is performed with minimal risk and is very safe.

Safety glasses are provided by our dentist to protect both patients and their parents.

Soft Tissue Procedures

Waterlase lasers can also be used to perform soft tissue (gums and tongue, cheek, frenulum, cheek) procedures to reduce the pain and speed up healing.
